William Howard School
William Howard School
William Howard School is situated in the market town of Brampton, in the North East of Cumbria. We serve a large catchment area, 362 square miles and have 30+ feeder primary schools, drawing our students from not just our catchment area but from southern Scotland, Northumbria and the fringes of Carlisle. We are an innovative and forward-thinking school where high quality Teaching and Learning is at the heart of all that we do. We are passionate about education and aim to provide an exciting and engaging learning environment where students are inspired, enthused and equipped for the future.
Like all schools we are very proud of our exam results at both GCSE and A ‘Level but we are so much more as well. Whilst students at William Howard will be pushed to maximise their achievement and attainment we place as much emphasis on ensuring our students become fully rounded individuals, who can make contributions at all levels of society. We are a school at the heart of our community and we want everyone of our students to grow into the community stewards of the future.
Our rich and varied extra-curricular programme offers children the opportunity to enjoy a wide range of activities and experiences. Our diverse programme includes an impressive array of sporting clubs and competitions, musical events, numerous productions, Duke of Edinburgh Award and a vast array of trips and residential visits.
Even though we celebrate our communities and locality we also recognise that our students need to be global citizens. It is for that reason we have strong international links which are given a high priority within school, with the aim of increasing our students awareness of different cultures and wider opportunities. Our school house system reinforces this ethos, with the Houses named after Tanzanian trees. Our long-standing exchange programme with Uru Secondary School in Tanzania has been running for twenty-five years; we have active exchanges with schools in Taiwan and Sweden, and we have educationally visits annually to Germany, France, Italy, USA, Spain and Holland to name but few.
