Around 170 primary school children from across Cumbria enjoyed a day testing their sporting talents.
Year 2 children from the eight primary schools within Cumbria Education Trust were brought together for a multi sports festival at the trust’s Workington Academy.
Pupils took part in a range of activities focused on developing fundamental sport and PE skills. This included benchball, throwing and catching games, agility, jumping and coordination activities, trampolining, dance and children’s yoga.
The day gave pupils the opportunity to use Workington Academy’s indoor and outdoor sports facilities including its sports hall, performance hall, activity studio, fitness suite and new £400,000 3G pitch.
All the activities were led and supported by Sports Leaders from the multi-academy trust’s secondary schools; Workington Academy, The Whitehaven Academy and William Howard School in Brampton and Student Ambassadors from the West Coast Sixth Form, also part of Cumbria Education Trust.
Nic Tweddle, CET Assistant Headteacher and Student Events Lead, said: “The pupils had smiles on their faces throughout the day. It was a really fun, active day and all the young people threw themselves into the activities. There was a lot of excitement and laughter and a chance for them to enjoy the facilities at Workington.”
“As this was a festival event, pupils worked in mixed groups from across our trust primaries giving them a chance to play and chat with other children from across the county.”
The eight primaries taking part were Caldew Lea, Newtown and Yewdale from Carlisle; Northside from Workington; Hensingham from Whitehaven; Tebay and Yanwath from Eden; and Longtown.
