On Thursday 7th March 2024, over 50 Cumbria Education Trust (CET) leaders attended the third CET Leadership Event, held at the Castle Inn Hotel in Bassenthwaite. This event, led by Matt Butler, Director of Primary School Improvement and Professional Development, explored leadership at CET and discussed its ongoing efforts to shape and refine the leadership ethos within the organisation.

Joined by Mark Gregory, Regional Director at One World, Matt welcomed the attendees before delving into crucial conversations about the development of the leadership culture at CET. Following this, the group began to reflect on the best practices achieved so far and drew on valuable feedback gathered from the last Leadership Event. This provided great insights into CET’s leadership culture and how to grow and learn further as a team. A comparative analysis of the well-known leadership culture model designed by Pat Lencioni, a renowned thinker and writer in the field, allowed the Leadership Team to explore building CET’s leadership model.

The discussions then moved on to individual mindsets, building upon the groundwork laid at previous Leadership events. The event ended with an exploration into how the developed leadership culture model can be applied across regular school interactions, aiming to integrate the leadership culture seamlessly into daily operations, ensuring its relevance and effectiveness.

Reflecting on the event, Matt said, “ The third leadership event turned out to be equally thought-provoking and illuminating as the first two. Leaders engaged in some wonderfully rich discussions about the mindsets that we want to be at the core of CET leadership. The various discussions produced reams of high-quality feedback and great insights into how we can further shape and deepen the leadership culture model.  We look towards how we can make these mindsets a habit for all leaders and how we can all play a part in supporting each other in that journey.”

Charlotte Astill, Business Operations Manager, who attended the event, commented, “Leaders at CET are passionate and committed to creating and delivering an excellent leadership culture. The event really showed the fantastic sense of collaboration and teamwork that is at the heart of the Trust”.

This event provided crucial reflection as CET continues its ongoing journey of growth and the continuous evolution of leadership within CET.
