Over the last five years, several of CET’s schools have worked closely with Cash For Kids (CFK), a charity that supports children and young people affected by poverty, abuse, neglect, life-limiting illness and those who have additional needs. Sara Oldham, Fundraising Executive, spearheads the fundraising in Cumbria and works closely with Caldew Lea Primary School, Newtown Primary School, Petteril Bank School and Yewdale Primary School.
Sara is an incredible woman; she works closely with our parents, our schools and the communities around them, to ensure every child received the help and support they need. Over the last five years, she has contributed to raising around £30,000 for our schools along with resources donated such as food vouchers for families in crisis, weighted blankets for children who struggle with sleep, bedding and toiletries, outdoor gyms, specialised after school clubs, Pizza Express Christmas experiences, circus tickets, residential resources for children, costs towards trips, Mission For Christmas, summer activity packs, Easter eggs, special Christmas hampers for working families, resources to support the pastoral team and the children they work with and much more!

Last week, our schools each held a presentation for Sara, to thank her for all of her hard work. Various children, unprompted, approached Sara to thank her for specifically helping their families – a heartwarming reminder that her work is so important to our young people.
One pupil said, “It is really nice and I am grateful as this doesn’t happen often for us so thank you”.
Another child added, “To see my best friend and his brother being helped by someone means I am really grateful to Cash for Kids”.
Sue Newstead, Director of Learning Provision, commented, “We are so grateful to Sara for all she does, along with all the parents and carers who have benefitted from and continue to receive support from this remarkable charity. With schools facing increasing challenges, having the opportunity to access funds for the benefit of our children and their families is an invaluable resource.”
Sara, your kindness and dedication are truly admirable, and we feel incredibly fortunate to have your support – thank you from all at Cumbria Education Trust.
