Why Cumbria Education Trust...

We at Cumbria Education Trust passionately believe that every child deserves the opportunities to ‘be the best they can be’. And we’re equally clear that we cannot deliver on that belief without developing the very best staffing to support our students in that goal.

CET strives to be recognised as an employer of choice. We want to attract high quality candidates for our Apprenticeship opportunities and in return offer a ‘people first’ approach so that all of our Apprentices feel valued and part of the CET family and wider community.

We want to develop confident, competent Apprentices able to contribute to the development of CET.

We support and develop our staff and give individuals every opportunity to develop and grow with us.

Staff have the opportunity to work across our family of schools, enabling our academies to benefit from wider expertise and to offer individuals fresh opportunities.

In return, we ask our Apprentices to commit to the trust standards, these include:

  • All of us are responsible for promoting the trust values of Respect, Responsibility and Resilience.
  • Staff routinely modelling our view that everyone within the organisation is helped and supported to ‘Be the best you can be’.
  • In all decision-making, pupils and students must come first and inclusion is at the heart of our learning approach.

Brooke Cowan
Caldew Lea Primary School

When discussing about things I enjoy in my apprenticeship, I am spoiled for choice. However at the heart of it all is the children. Having an apprenticeship in a school is the most rewarding job. Seeing how much the children progress over the academic year and how you can be a part of so many children’s development. A child’s mind is like a sponge constantly absorbing information and for me to be a part of their learning is the best thing of all!

I couldn’t thank Caldew Lea staff enough for always supporting me within school and also with my college work. I know that within my school I can go to any member of staff for advice whether that’s furthering my knowledge with classroom support or even getting advice on where I can find key resources for my college work. I have learned so much since becoming an apprentice at Caldew Lea and will always continue with my learning.

An apprenticeship with CET is an amazing way to further your knowledge into becoming a TA. Also by getting a chance to collaborate and work alongside many amazing schools.

Danielle Hayhow
Yewdale Primary School

I enjoy the ability to learn on the job and gain hands on experience trailing and erroring and continuously developing my skills as a TA. The team at Yewdale are amazing and supportive all the time. There’s lots of opportunities to develop further and every day brings a new challenge. At CET you are part of a wider community and there’s lots of opportunities to develop your own practise and to help others develop.

Jennifer Kirkwood
Workington Academy

Being a TA at Workington Academy opened my eyes to teaching, it helped me learn so much about SEN children and helped me understand what they need to help them develop. Being a TA also helped me understand different teacher strategies to help with classroom behaviour. I was extremely lucky to be able to get a job in the school I had already worked in, which meant I had already built some strong relationships with the pupils I now get to teach.

The thing I enjoy most about working at Workington Academy is being part of a team where you can speak to literally anyone about anything, whether it is something to do with a certain pupil, a certain class or even just a general chat. The school’s staff are very open and easy to talk to.

Nancy Byrne
Yanwath Primar School

I went to a primary school similar to Yanwath school and feel a primary school is a lovely environment to work in. I love helping to teach the children and getting involved with different subjects they learn. I’ve learnt so much since starting my apprenticeship with Cumbria Education Trust. Everyone is so helpful in the school and I love that they involve me and see me as part of the team and not just a helper or someone that will come and go. The days are very fast pace and everyone has a lot to do, but they make the time to help others and give guidance. If you undertake apprenticeship with Cumbria Education Trust you will get all the help you need and gain great experience in the role.

Niamh Little
Caldew Lea Primary School

I was attracted to an apprenticeship with Cumbria Education Trust due to the fact that they put children first no matter what and it’s all about the children.

I am enjoying learning all the different elements of being a TA apprentice and being in all 7 different classes and years! Working alongside amazing teachers and colleagues. The fact that you are given the opportunity to learn new things every day and teach small group things such as RWI and having experience in every year group!

Cumbria Education Trust listen to all your needs and requirements and work with you on ways to improve so you can feel happier in the school.
