Welcome to your ECF journey with Cumbria Education Trust. CET’s expertise and support combine with the ECF programme to provide you with a platform to “Be the best you can be“ in the early stages of your teaching career.

Katy Birks
ECF Trust Lead and programme facilitator
In addition to leading the ECF programme for CET, I am Assistant Head Teacher leading on Teaching and Learning and CPD at William Howard School, Brampton. I also work as a School Improvement Lead for CET.
Vision for Early Career Teachers at Cumbria Education Trust:
In the first term of being an Early Career Teacher I discovered Dylan Wiliam’s quotation, “ Every Teacher needs to improve, not because they are not good enough, but because they can be even better.” This philosophy resonated with me instantly, informing my own educational evolution and underpinning my career long passion for teacher development.
Completing your ECT years with Cumbria Education Trust will provide you with expert and enthusiastic practitioners to guide you through those formative teaching years that have the potential to shape you into the teachers you will be and the educational leaders of the future.

Dan Smith
ECF Trust lead and programme facilitator
I assist in the leading of the ECT programme for CET alongside Katy. My school role is Assistant Head teacher responsible for Raising Standards at The Whitehaven Academy. I have responsibility for our ECTs and their development pathways.
Vision for Early Career Teachers at Cumbria Education Trust:
I enjoy collaboration in all aspects and learning from others. I believe it is one of the most powerful drivers behind staff development. Being within Cumbria Education Trust allows us to work alongside colleagues of all different backgrounds and experiences. This is incredibly useful for our ECTs who are starting out in their teaching careers.
