Fancy studying zoology? Or does international business management have more appeal? Maybe psychology with criminology sounds like something you could get your teeth into?
Students coming out of West Coast Sixth Form have a wealth of options for future study and careers.
The courses mentioned above are just three of those chosen by our 2020 leavers who, after securing their post-16 qualifications with us, were keen to start the next chapter of their learning.
Recently our students have secured places on courses at highly competitive universities such as Durham, Newcastle, Lancaster, Leeds, Manchester and Warwick. We also had our first sixth form student to be offered a place at Oxford University and we’re now supporting more teenagers who want to access education at some of this country – and the world’s – most prestigious institutions.
Many wanting to further their studies are also keen to sample life in a new area or city. But there are also those who pursue the next step closer to home, with the University of Cumbria becoming a popular choice for some students.
And it’s not all about going on to further study alone. Last year, 20 of our students successfully moved into apprenticeships, including with top employers such as Sellafield, NNL, United Utilities and Gen2.
Andrea McAllister, Head of the sixth form’s Workington campus, said: “We are very proud of our destinations data, with more than 98% of students moving on to higher education, training or employment.
“The range is huge, from biomedical science to philosophy, civil engineering to midwifery and everything in between.
“We attribute this success not only to the students’ dedication and work ethic but also to our carefully designed personal development programme delivered by our experienced and dedicated sixth form tutors.
“We encourage all our students to apply for aspirational courses at aspirational institutions.”
