Cumbria Education Trust (CET) is thrilled to announce the continued success of its National Professional Qualifications (NPQs). Our October 2022 cohorts have recently completed their leadership NPQs in Early Years Leadership (EYL) and Senior Leadership (SL).
CET deliver NPQs in partnership with Ambition Institute. The accomplishment of completing an NPQ is a testament to the dedication and hard work of all participants. We are proud to celebrate their achievements and recognise the significant milestone this represents in their professional journeys.
Special recognition and thanks are due to our Visiting Fellows for their exceptional and comprehensive facilitation of these programmes. Their dedication and professional guidance has been instrumental in achieving these excellent outcomes and has positively impacted our School Improvement agenda and continuing our supporting of professional development across Cumbria.
Nic Tweddle, CET Leadership Development Lead, commented, “We are delighted with the continued success of our NPQ programmes and we are incredibly proud of all of our NPQ participants and graduates to date. Completing a Leadership NPQ is a fantastic professional achievement and takes a lot of dedication, time and hard work across the full 18-month programme period to be successful. A huge thank you must also go to our Visiting Fellows, who have facilitated our NPQ programmes so diligently and professionally, creating high-quality learning experiences for all of our participants.”
We will be commemorating our successful NPQ participants in a celebratory event in the new academic year, more details on this will follow.
CET is now inviting applications for the Autumn 2024 NPQ programmes. Aspiring leaders are encouraged to apply and take the next step in their professional development. Detailed information and the application form can be found on our website at www.cumbriaeducationtrust.org/npqs.

What is an NPQ?
The National Professional Qualifications (NPQs) are Department for Education-accredited qualifications for teachers and school leaders. They are designed to develop knowledge and skills in schools by providing evidence-based professional development on what teachers and school leaders need to know to build their expertise.
What type of NPQs are there?
There are two types of NPQs: specialist and leadership. Specialist NPQs aim to develop expertise in specialist areas of teaching practice, such as behaviour or literacy. Leadership NPQs aim to develop expertise in school leadership.
Why would I do an NPQ?
Great teaching changes lives. The evidence is clear: the quality of teaching makes the biggest difference to what a child achieves. It has three times more impact than any other factor within a school’s control (RAND, 2019).
Our NPQ programmes support the professional development of teachers and school leaders, drawing on the very best research and evidence. They are designed to equip you to tackle the challenges you face and provide practical tools for you to have an even bigger impact, in the classroom and across your school.
How do I apply?
You can apply via our website www.cumbriaeducationtrust.org/npqs or contact our NPQ team at npqs@cumbriaeducationtrust.org.
CET remains committed to creating excellence in education and is excited to welcome a new cohort of aspiring leaders to its NPQ programmes. We look forward to continuing our mission of educational excellence and leadership development.
