At the beginning of term, we welcomed our 2024 Initial Teacher Training (ITT) cohort. To start their teaching journey on a high, they gathered for the CET ITT induction conference, at Newtown Primary School, bringing all trainees together for the first time. As they are set to embark on an exciting journey into teaching, they will play a crucial role in shaping the future generations and we are thrilled they have taken this first step in their career.
The CET ITT Induction covered a wide range of learning theories and teaching strategies, and the trainees had lots of engaging and insightful discussions with their mentors, coaches and each other.
Jo Daulby, ITT Lead, commented, “What a wonderful group we have, starting their teacher careers. They fully engaged with each session and the deliberate practice sessions were such fun. I am confident that each trainee will blossom into great teachers for our young people – what a fantastic start!”
Abby, an ITT trainee, added, “The course has been engaging and reassuring. It has provided me with the skills I need to start confidently. [The] course instructors were amazing and [the induction] was well delivered.”
“
All sessions were collaborative and engaging. Every teacher was so amazing and kind. Lovely atmosphere that made me feel very included.”
– Alex, ITT Trainee
Throughout this year, the programme will equip trainees with the skills, knowledge, and confidence to become an outstanding educator. They will have opportunities to learn from our experienced leaders, get hands-on teaching experience in a school and be able to collaborate with fellow trainees together with experienced colleagues across CET. The programme also blends in-school experience with an exciting ITT curriculum created by our Ambition partners, informed by the latest research in education.
Each trainee has a fully-trained in-school mentor they meet with weekly, where they will reflect on successes, no matter how big or small, check their workload is manageable, monitor their wellbeing, and provide any support.
One of the key elements of CET’s ITT programme is that trainees are school-based, where they will become a part of the school’s team from the beginning. As the year progresses, there will be exciting opportunities to visit other schools and education providers who teach children of different ages and stages, to enhance each trainee’s overall experience.
This is not only about acquiring teaching skills; it is about developing each trainee’s individual teaching style, understanding students’ needs, and discovering how to make a lasting impact in the classroom.
Could you see yourself becoming an inspiring teacher? Applications for our 2025 ITT programme open on 8th October 2024. Register your interest today, and you will be the first to receive all the information you need to apply!
