This year, four of our primary schools  – Caldew Lea Primary School, Newtown Primary School, Petteril Bank School, and Yewdale Primary School – enthusiastically participated in the Cash For Kids Sports Challenge. The challenge, which runs across Cumbria for a month in September and October, encourages schools to raise as much money as possible. Schools not only keep all the funds they collect but also compete for additional cash prizes. The top fundraising school wins £5,000, with second and third place receiving £2,500 and £1,500, respectively.

Our schools went all out, coming up with brilliant and innovative ideas! They had initiatives such as Break The Rules day, Wear Odd Shoes day, 1001 miles in one day sponsored walks and the highly-anticipated Colour Fun Run! All families were invited to attend the run, and the schools were splashed with colour and laughter.

Together, the schools raised an impressive £7,739.58, making them the second-highest fundraiser and securing the additional £2,500 prize. They also won the ‘Best Team Effort’ prize of £500 for their Colour Fun Run!

With a grand total of £10,739.56 raised, these funds will go directly back into the schools, so look out for some amazing playground transformations coming soon!

We are incredibly proud of the creativity and dedication shown by our staff, the enthusiasm of the children, and the overwhelming support from parents and the community. A special thanks goes to Mrs. Lund for her tireless efforts in organizing this remarkable challenge every year. Sadie Skivington, Assistant Headteacher at Newtown Primary School, added, “A special thank you to Mrs Lund for her incredible passion, dedication and organisation! You have earned a Newtown star!”.
