The pupils and staff at Castle Carrock Primary School (CC), part of Cumbria Education Trust, are celebrating a fantastic achievement after securing third place in England Rocks – a national times tables competition organised by the internationally renowned, award-winning app and learning platform, Times Tables Rock Stars (TTRS).
Over 4,543 schools across England participated in the competition, which challenged children to correctly answer as many multiplication and division questions as possible, giving their class and school a chance to top the leaderboard. The competition was fierce, with an incredible 201,618,322 questions answered collectively by 384,658 pupils!
CC delivered outstanding results—on average, pupils answered 5,808 questions correctly each, with the top-performing pupil answering an astonishing 13,036 questions correctly. What an incredible achievement!
Mrs Lee, Headteacher at CC, expressed her delight: “I am blown away by these results! We’ve always known our children are incredibly talented, but for a small rural primary school to achieve third place in such a competitive national event is a moment of immense pride.”
Joshua, the best performing pupil reflected on the competition: “I enjoyed this competition and I feel proud of myself and my friends because we are a small school and the other schools were much bigger than us. It shows that we are one of the best schools in England to play TTRS.”
Miss Moynan, the class teacher at CC, shared her pride as well: “I couldn’t be prouder of our amazing children; their determination and love for learning have truly shone through this competition. Our school values of respect, responsibility and resilience also really came to light throughout this, and they certainly were the best they could be. To begin with, we were nervous and entered the competition very dubious, as we are such a small village school. However, as the competition progressed and we saw our name in the top 10, we knew we could do it!”.
Bruno Reddy, creator of Times Tables Rock Stars, commended the school: “The pupils excelled throughout England Rocks. Not only did they engage in friendly competition, but their recall and speed clearly improved as the competition progressed. Our goal has always been to make learning maths basics so enjoyable that pupils give it their all, and they certainly did that here.”
Congratulations to everyone at Castle Carrock Primary School! Your hard work, enthusiasm, and commitment to learning have truly shone, and you should be incredibly proud of this amazing result.
