Across Cumbria and beyond, we are proud to be playing an active role in strengthening the wider education system. Through collaboration, expert guidance, strategic partnerships and shared ambition, CET continues to support schools, teachers and trainees in ways that help improve attendance, raise standards and enhance opportunities for young people. This work reflects our commitment to making a positive difference not only within our own Trust, but across the region.
1. Leading Attendance Improvement through the RISE Hub
Workington Academy has been named a Lead School in the RISE Attendance Hub project, thanks to its outstanding success in raising attendance and improving behaviour. As a lead institution, it plays a pivotal role in guiding best practice, supporting other schools in the region and helping to raise attendance standards.
2. Regional Expertise to support Schools
Following his appointment as RISE Regional Adviser, Des Bird, CET’s Director of Secondary Improvement, is working closely with identified schools. His role includes signposting effective practices, sharing proven strategies, and helping schools overcome attendance and behaviour challenges.
3. Strengthening Academic Partnerships with UoC
CET continues its long-standing collaboration with the University of Cumbria (UoC). Professors of Practice, Lorrayne Hughes and Matt Hood, work alongside staff and students to enrich teaching and learning as well as enhancing the experience the university provides to its students.
4. Supporting Teacher Training Through ITT Partnerships
CET is committed to developing future educators through Initial Teacher Training (ITT). The Trust has maintained its partnership with Ullswater Community College for a second year and established a new partnership with St Benedict’s Catholic School, providing aspiring teachers with practical experience and mentorship.
5. Schools across the county and beyond
CET is committed to strengthening education not only in our own schools. Through collaboration, sharing best practice, and offering tailored guidance, the Trust continues to work with schools outside its own network to help raise standards and improve outcomes for young people everywhere.
