Students across Cumbria Education Trust’s secondary schools are celebrating their A Level and Level 3 results today, marking another important milestone after years of hard work, determination and commitment.
Across the Trust, students are progressing to an exciting range of next steps, from university courses and degree apprenticeships to employment, specialist training and other opportunities.
Results Day is about much more than the grades on a piece of paper. It is an opportunity to celebrate the individual journeys of our young people, the resilience they have shown and the contribution they have made to their schools and wider communities.
We are incredibly proud of every student receiving their results today and grateful to the families, teachers and support staff who have encouraged and supported them throughout their education.
Individual Highlights Across the Trust
Kirkby Stephen Grammar School
Kirkby Stephen Grammar School is celebrating another successful year of A Level results, with students securing places at universities across the country and progressing to a wide range of exciting destinations.
Notable successes and next steps include:
- Charlotte Eife achieved A* in Mathematics, A in Physics and B in Chemistry. Charlotte will study Astrophysics at the University of Liverpool.
- Victoria Hunter achieved A* in Sociology, A in Media and B in Geography. Victoria will study Media and Cultural Studies at the University of Liverpool.
- Alfie Maltby achieved A* in Geography, A in History and B in Biology. Alfie will study History at the University of Leeds.
- Scarlett Milburn achieved A* in Geography, B in Chemistry and B in Physics. Scarlett will study Global Development at the University of York.
- Emily Tyson achieved A* in Geography, A in Biology and B in Chemistry. Emily will study Biochemistry at the University of Warwick.
- Jacob Chappell achieved A in History, B in English Language and Literature and C in Biology. Jacob will study Paramedical Science at the University of Cumbria.
Nic Tweddle, Head of School, said the results represented a tremendous achievement for students and staff, reflecting both strong academic performance and the determination, perseverance and resilience shown by the Class of 2026.
Rachel Steels, Head of Sixth Form, also praised the year group, highlighting the individual stories behind every student’s success and wishing them well as they move on to the next stage of their lives.
The Queen Katherine School
Students at The Queen Katherine School in Kendal are also celebrating today as they receive their A Level and Level 3 vocational results.
The Trust congratulates every member of the QKS Class of 2026 for the commitment, ambition and resilience they have demonstrated throughout their time in Sixth Form.
As they look ahead to the next stage of their lives, we wish every student the very best, whether their next step takes them into higher education, an apprenticeship, training or employment.
William Howard School
At William Howard School, students are celebrating excellent results and an impressive variety of destinations, reflecting the different talents, interests and ambitions within the year group.
Among this year’s successes:
- Carl Dixon will study Mechanical Engineering.
- Toby Smallwood has secured an accountancy apprenticeship with David Allen.
- Luke Beattie will study Veterinary Medicine and Surgery.
- Iona Elder will study Biochemistry after spending a gap year in Canada working as a ski instructor.
- Richard Kutasi will undertake an Architecture Apprenticeship with Unwin Jones.
- Dan Beasley will study Wildlife, Ecology and Conservation.
- Jamie Judd will study Zoology.
- Evie Mellor has secured a place at the prestigious Royal Northern College of Music.
The school praised the hard work and commitment of its students, as well as the support provided by staff and families throughout their journey.
Five William Howard students have also been followed throughout the year by ITV Border and are due to feature in the broadcaster’s Results Day coverage.
West Coast Sixth Form
Students across both the Workington Academy and The Whitehaven Academy campuses of West Coast Sixth Form are celebrating a wide range of impressive outcomes.
Nigel Youngman, Headteacher at The Whitehaven Academy, and Mark Bedford, Executive Headteacher at Workington Academy, praised students for the hard work, commitment and determination that has led them to their next steps.
They also thanked families and colleagues for their support and highlighted the work of The Access Project in helping students secure places at Russell Group universities.
There have been many individual successes, including:
- Maddie Pold achieved A* in Geography, A in Biology, Distinction* in Health and Social Care and A in her EPQ. She will study Physical Geography with a placement year at Lancaster University.
- Charlie Hodgson achieved a Distinction in Applied Science and Distinction* Distinction* in Double Sport and has secured a Degree Apprenticeship with Costain.
- Tilly Gregg achieved A grades in Mathematics, Physics and Biology, alongside an A in her EPQ, and will study Physics at Lancaster University.
- Grace Savage achieved A* grades in Mathematics, Chemistry and Biology and will study Chemistry at the University of Manchester.
- Levi Rooke achieved A* in Mathematics, A* in Physics and A in Further Mathematics and will study Physics at Durham University.
- James Hatton achieved A* in Mathematics, A* in Computer Science and A in Further Mathematics and will study Mathematics and Computer Science at Lancaster University.
- Millie Kirk achieved A in Religious Studies and Distinctions in Applied Science and Children’s Play, Learning and Development. She has secured a Teaching Assistant Apprenticeship at Workington Academy.
- Amy Barnes achieved a Distinction in Children’s Play, Learning and Development and Distinction* Distinction* in Health and Social Care and will study Paramedic Science at the University of Huddersfield.
The achievements come as West Coast Sixth Form continues to develop across its two campuses, with positive outcomes also reported among Year 12 students.

Results Day represents the culmination of an enormous amount of work from students, staff and families across Cumbria Education Trust.
Whatever comes next, whether university, an apprenticeship, further training, employment, travel or another pathway, today is a chance for our students to recognise just how much they have achieved.

Our attention now turns to our Year 11 students, who will receive their GCSE and vocational results on Thursday 20 August 2026.
