Stramongate Primary School, part of Cumbria Education Trust (CET), is celebrating after their recent Ofsted inspection resulted in the school receiving a ‘Good’ rating in all five areas:

  • The quality of education
  • Behaviour and attitudes
  • Personal development
  • Leadership and management
  • Early years provision.

The Ofsted report is full of glowing comments about the school, who has recently transitioned to CET. The inspectors noticed the collaboration and positive outcomes of this move already, stating “Together, the trust and the school have a shared vision. The best interests of pupils lie at the heart of any changes that are made.”

Throughout the inspection, the school was able to showcase the quality of education, with inspectors noting, “The school and the trust have high expectations for pupils’ achievement.” They also recognised the wide-ranging experiences the children receive, “Pupils learn a broad and engaging curriculum. This is enriched with visits, residential trips and outdoor learning experiences.”

The report highlights several key strengths of the school, including the behaviour and attitudes of the children who attend, “Pupils are happy at this school. Staff build nurturing relationships with pupils. They help them to feel safe and to live out the school’s values of respect, responsibility and resilience.”

This includes the importance that is placed on attendance, “The school and trust’s high expectations for attendance are shared widely and are understood by staff, pupils and parents and carers.”

The inspectors also recognised how personal development is an important part of the school’s offering, “The school supports pupils’ broader development effectively. Pupils learn about the importance of maintaining their mental and physical health.”

This also includes giving children more responsibility in school to grow, “The school promotes pupils’ leadership skills through roles such as school councillors and ‘worry buddies’. Pupils are proud of the impact they have through these roles.”

The team of staff were also highly praised, “The school has ensured that staff’s subject and pedagogical knowledge is strong” and “staff build nurturing relationships with pupils. They help them to feel safe and to live out the school’s values of respect, responsibility and resilience.”

The school’s Early Years provision is important to ensure that all children start their educational journey in the strongest way possible. This was noted in the report, “The school has defined clearly the key knowledge it expects pupils to know each year, starting from the early years” and “staff in the early years support children well to understand the feelings of others”.

Mrs Alston-Hewitt, Deputy Headteacher, commented, “We want to take this opportunity to thank every member of staff for their tireless dedication and passion for what they do. We would also like to recognise our wonderful children, whose attitude and behaviour impressed inspectors throughout the visit.”
