Teachers and pupils at Yanwath School

Yanwath Primary School, part of Cumbria Education Trust, is celebrating following its most recent Ofsted inspection, which recognised the school’s high quality provision, inclusive culture and ambitious vision for pupils.

Inspectors praised the calm and focused learning environment at the school, where pupils are highly motivated, respectful and proud of their work.

Attendance and behaviour were recognised as particular strengths, with inspectors highlighting leaders’ highly effective systems for identifying and removing barriers to attendance and ensuring high expectations are consistently realised across the school.

The published report is filled with positive reflections about the school’s work, with inspectors highlighting:

“Leaders have created a calm, focused learning environment.”

“This is a highly inclusive school.”

“Pupils, including disadvantaged pupils and those with special educational needs and/or disabilities, achieve extremely well in reading, writing and mathematics.”

“Leaders and trustees have robust systems and highly analytical processes that enable them to know, with certainty, the school’s strengths and priorities.”

“Staff value these wide-ranging opportunities and articulate the positive impact this has had in a short time frame.”

Inspectors also recognised the strong partnership between the school and Cumbria Education Trust, noting the shared aspirational vision for pupils and the extensive professional development opportunities available to staff.

The report highlights the broad and ambitious curriculum at Yanwath, alongside the rich opportunities provided to pupils through trips, clubs and wider experiences that support personal development and wellbeing.

Headteacher Allison Kenyon said:

“I am incredibly proud of our whole school community. This report reflects the dedication, care and ambition that staff, pupils and families bring to Yanwath every day. Our children are at the centre of everything we do and it is wonderful to see their achievements, attitudes and wellbeing recognised in this way.”

The inspection also identified next steps, including strengthening consistency across all curriculum subjects and aspects of early years practice, with leaders already taking action in these areas as part of the school’s ongoing commitment to improvement.
