Welcome to our 2024 ITT cohort

At the beginning of term, we welcomed our 2024 Initial Teacher Training (ITT) cohort. To start their teaching journey on a high, they gathered for the CET ITT induction conference, at Newtown Primary School, bringing all trainees together for the first time. As they are set to embark on an exciting journey into teaching, they will play a crucial role in shaping the future generations and we are thrilled they have taken this first step in their career. The CET ITT Induction covered a wide range of learning theories and teaching strategies, and the trainees had lots of engaging and insightful discussions with their mentors, coaches and each other. GCSE Results Day 2024

CET schools across Cumbria have welcomed back Year 11 students to receive their GCSE results today. The Whitehaven Academy, William Howard School and Workington Academy have been celebrating the dedication and hard work of their students, along with all of the staff who have helped our young people reach this milestone. A Level Results Day 2024

Across the county, Sixth Form students collected their A-Level results today, marking the end of their secondary school journey. For students at West Coast Sixth Form—a collaborative venture between The Whitehaven Academy and Workington Academy—and William Howard School, this day was not just about grades but a celebration of years of dedication, hard work, and resilience. Our schools opened their doors early this morning, welcoming back students eagerly awaiting their results. Teachers and staff were on hand to congratulate the students. NPQ Leadership Success

Cumbria Education Trust (CET) is thrilled to announce the continued success of its National Professional Qualifications (NPQs). Our October 2022 cohorts have recently completed their leadership NPQs in Early Years Leadership (EYL) and Senior Leadership (SL). CET deliver NPQs in partnership with Ambition Institute. The accomplishment of completing an NPQ is a testament to the dedication and hard work of all participants. We are proud to celebrate their achievements and recognise the significant milestone this represents in their professional journeys. Special recognition and thanks are due to our Visiting Fellows for their exceptional and comprehensive facilitation of these programmes. Attendance Awards for CET Schools

Several Cumbria Education Trust (CET) schools have been awarded a National Attendance Award by FFT for high attendance in the Spring Term. FFT collects daily attendance data from over 10,000 schools. This data helps schools track, monitor and compare their attendance every week. The awards have been given to schools with attendance in the top 10% and top 25% of all FFT schools nationally for the 2023/24 Spring Term. It also awards the top 10% and top 25% attendance certificates to schools in similar circumstances (based on the percentage of Free School Meals). ‘Perfect’ Graduation Performances!

Students from The Whitehaven Academy, Workington Academy and Yewdale Primary School had the honour of showing off their performance skills at the University of Cumbria graduation ceremonies, held at the historic Carlisle Cathedral. Earning overwhelmingly positive praise from the University of Cumbria faculty and attendees, it was noted that the CET students captivated audiences with their ‘perfect’ performances and that their ‘exemplary conduct’ and grace under pressure were noted by all in attendance. Petteril Bank School Children Are Top Ranking Mathematicians!

Year 4 pupils at Petteril Bank School are celebrating after receiving some remarkable maths results. Twenty 8 and 9-year-old pupils from the school, which is part of Cumbria Education Trust, averaged an impressive 24.8 out of 25 on the government’s Year 4 Multiplication Tables Check (MTC). This outstanding performance is around 5 marks above last year’s national average and is likely one of the highest scores for a state school in the country – making them amongst some of the top ranking mathematicians! The MTC was introduced by the Government in 2022 to help schools assess whether pupils can fluently recall their times tables, a crucial skill for future success in mathematics.
